Within the business cycle, companies establish their mission and vision, which they convert into goals, strategic plans and objectives. These must be measured accurately and objectively so that the organisation is aligned to obtain them.

It is a well-known dogma in the business world that you cannot improve what you do not measure. Despite this, a lack of structured information that is available for the analysis and detection of opportunities for improvement is very common.

The optimal way to collect and sort information is through a company’s balanced scorecard (BSC) which, in turn, collects the most representative indicators for each activity area.

The balanced scorecards allow the executives of the companies to follow up their business objectives in a visual and quick way, identify trends, anticipate possible problems or business opportunities and unite the different departments.

A correct definition of the BSC is fundamental in order to align the objectives of the strategic plan with the operations and to answer the questions asked by department managers.
